SWEFTA Round 10 - BuckleyWood 30 Sept - Booking in and shooting from 0730am, Cooked food/Drinks and snacks available all day.
Both FT & HFT courses have had major work done to tidy them up in the last 2 weeks and all the vegetation has gone. This should allow the wind to flow a little more freely than usual..

This Sunday sees R8 Swefta NorthDevon on the 19th August 2007. However due to foot&mouth precautions they cannot hold the shoot, East Devon FTC has stepped in and offered our ground to the lads so it can still go ahead. A working party this evening has re-arranged the targets and strimmed the undergrowth, maybe the average range has been 'pushed out' a little..
Reminder NO SHOOTING this Saturday before the shoot as target painting and inspection will be carried out.

BFTA GP4
national round at Bisley proved a real success, Swefta shooters had a good
share of the spoils.
Very well done to Dave Cummings (EDFTC) 48ex50 'B' grade winner and Kevin Jackman (SDFTC) 47ex50 2nd 'AA' , Tony fouracres (EDFTC) 39ex50 for third in 'A' grade after a tough shoot off, also Paul Eaton (BW) 39ex50 for winning 'C' grade at on Sunday, great shooting lads.

I heard the phone message with my own ears and yes people it's sad that I have to report bribery and corruption within SWEFTA. One of my members has been approached by a fellow SWEFTA club and has been offered free food for twelve months if they would consider shooting for them in 2008, and as we know this member is quite partial to their Saturday sausage, little does the club realise the financial implications of their actions and the ravonous consumption which he will undertake with this offer. It will be ugly and disturbing to watch.

FT Review issue 36 now available for download.
Reminder, Swefta Round 5 - 10th June -North Petherwin, the course is based on a downhill slope, the targets drop down into a dip, use of a bubble level is a must on this course. Many of the targets are mounted at an angle. Rifle cant is a serious issue here !
The next BFTA national FT championship competition is looming also, GP4 - 17th June - Bisley, set on the military ranges amongst the woodland and razor wire.

It is with deep sadness to report the passing of David Baines (DWB) - A true ambassador for our national sport.
From the BFTA website -:

It is with the greatest Sadness I have to tell you all that David Baines passed away today (Thursday 21st December) as the result of a heart attack.
My condolences together with those of all members of the BFTA go out to Dave's wife Pauline and his family.
At this moment in time I am lost in my feelings - I have known Dave for so many years and we talk and correspond frequently.
However I am sure you will all agree that there is no one in this sport we all enjoy who will be so sorely missed.
To avoid pressure on Dave's family please could you contact me for any shoot details etc. The BFTA Web site has been updated to re-route emails to me and I will pass on any messages to the family at an appropriate time.

SWEFTA vs WAFTA 2006
East Devon FTC.
Sunday the 15th October saw two regions come together to once again do annual battle. In other words it was the annual SWEFTA vs WAFTA FT shoot, this year held at the new East Devon FTC ground just outside Cullompton in Devon.
There was a very good turnout from both regions, despite the visitors having to travel quite a way in some cases. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your view, some of the WAFTA heavyweights were missing due to work commitments.
The weather was perfect, dry and warm all day with a troublesome little breeze to keep every shooter on their toes. East Devon is the sort of shoot where you can never relax. Every target has a challenge and with Chris Jones as course setter, you know you can take nothing for granted.
Early scores gave the impression that scores in the upper 20's would do well, until a rash of middle 30's came in. In the end Mark Shepherd from Avon Hawks took top slot with a 35 x 40, but four targets covered all top ten places. Fortunately, most of the top scorers, with a couple of exceptions, were from SWEFTA, which meant SWEFTA managed an overall with on 311 against WAFTA's 306.
Although not part of the main competition, as is the SWEFTA way, there was also an HFT shoot, which dovetails into the F.T. layout and ethic of keeping the shooter sweating. PCP class was won by Tony Fouracres and Recoiling class by Dave Cummings, both from East Devon FTC.
All agreed it was a great days shooting, with a very friendly atmosphere. Well done East Devon, and special thanks to Jan and Carol for the score keeping and catering.

We are now accepting visitors and membership applications. Membership period runs from Jan 1st for 12 months.
Colour maps showing directions to the club are now online.
2006 Competition calendar is now online (EDFTC,SWEFTA, GrandPrix, Euro/Worlds)
Reset handles fitted to the FT course.
12.12.05
Zero range bench beefed up and finished off.
40 FT lanes constructed with posts, targets, reset cords, just need to add numbers and reset handles. We reckon 1465 yards of cord has been attached to the targets...
4.12.05
The zero range 99% completed and is now up and running, Onwards to the course building, we have the targets, mounting plates, just waiting for the straps which should be here this week.
26.11.05
Chris & I, used that massive home-made post driver of his and set out the zero range (55yrds, space out to 70yrds). Larger posts driven in for the bench and seat area. Pulled muscles all round I think...
It has been confirmed the site is now fully covered by insurance for all its shooting activities.
23.11.05
Here are a few pictures taken prior to us starting work next week-:
20.11.05
First official site visit was conducted today, present were Chris, Jerry, Ian and myself. It is obvious Chris has obtained a superb location with huge potential ! Amazingly there is a hard-core gravel road running in a meandering loop throughout the woodland. This will provide the course boundary and dry & mud free shooting positions.
It has been agreed to start purchasing a large amount of gear to enable the erection of some targets to form a basic course. (So we can take a shooting break from all the work ahead this winter !). It is clear there is plenty space to design a full SWEFTA FT course and a UKAHFT spec course, along with the zero range, parking area (with potential for camping for special events subject to agreement). Its nice to see there's a pub on the way out of the site for when the shooting is over.
Dave.

Hi Everyone
Just like to share the good news with you all that I have today
secured a new venue for East Devon FTC.
The venue is about 3 miles from Cullompton on the Honiton road (A373) NR Andrews
Farm at Blackpark Wood which is 28 acres of mostly pine, The ground is flat
with good access and parking. It is going to take a month or so it get it up
and running and it is going to be just a basic shooting course only to begin
with, Hopefully in the future with the landlords permission we can erect a club
house.
Going to arrange a site visit to look at the venue and see what
we shall do ,ref FT lanes, zero range, HFT lanes, Not much if
any thinning of undergrowth is needed and should be very low maintenance
in that respect.
Let me know if you are available, Looking perhaps at next Saturday afternoon
at 2pm.
Regards
Chris Jones.
